Terms of use
The whole app is free to use, with no account, for anybody including schools and commercial courses. These are the conditions attached to that.

1. What you may do
Use Fotolingo for anything, including teaching a class you charge for. There is no personal-use restriction, no seat count, and no requirement to attribute the app in your lesson plan.
The source code is licensed under AGPL-3.0. Running it as-is puts no obligation on you. Publishing a modified copy as a network service obliges you to publish your modifications under the same licence.
The photographs are third-party works under their own licences, listed with their authors on the credits page. They are filtered to licences permitting commercial use and modification, but if you reuse a photograph outside the app, its licence — not this page — governs what you must do.
2. What you may not do
- Present the app, or a copy of it, as somebody else’s work, or strip the credits page from a copy you publish.
- Attempt to reach another user’s account or a class you were not given the code for.
- Automate requests at a volume that degrades the service for other people.
- Use a class nickname, display name or word list to publish content that is unlawful, or that targets or identifies a child.
3. Accounts
An account is optional and unlocks no lesson. You are responsible for the address and password you use, and for anything done while signed in as you.
You may delete your account at any time from the account page, which removes the data described in the privacy notice immediately. We may suspend an account that is being used to breach clause 2, and will say why.
Accounts are for one learner. A household sharing a device is fine; sharing one set of credentials across a class is what the School licence is for.
4. Paid tiers
Plus is $6.99 a month or $49.99 a year. A School licence is $129.99 a year for a whole school. Both are optional, and neither unlocks a word, a lesson, a language or a practice mode — what they buy is continuity and paperwork: sync, review past the free daily ceiling, printable sheets, homework, and class reporting.
Subscriptions renew until cancelled and can be cancelled at any time, taking effect at the end of the period already paid for. Access to paid features ends then; nothing you have learned is affected, because none of it was ever gated.
Refunds: if a paid feature does not do what this site says it does, ask and you will be refunded. If you subscribed by mistake and have not used a paid feature, ask within 14 days and you will be refunded. Statutory rights in your country are not affected by anything here.
Prices may change; a change never applies to a period already paid for, and you will be told before a renewal at a new price.
5. Availability, and what is not promised
The app is provided as-is, with no guarantee that it is available at any given moment. Three limits are worth stating plainly, because each is a deliberate part of how it works rather than a fault:
- Speech comes from your device. If your browser or operating system has no voice for a language, the app will say so rather than mispronounce the word in another language’s accent. We cannot install voices for you.
- Progress without an account is only as durable as your browser. Clearing site data erases it and no copy exists.
- Translations are a work in progress. A course marked as awaiting a native speaker’s review says so on its own page. Do not rely on any course for anything consequential — a legal, medical or safety-critical translation is not what a picture dictionary is for.
To the extent the law allows, liability is limited to the amount you have paid in the twelve months before a claim — which for almost everybody is nothing. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
6. Schools
Where a school uses class links, the school decides what pupils are asked to type as a nickname and is the controller of any personal data that creates. We act as a processor for those records and use them for nothing but showing the teacher their own class. A data-processing agreement is available on request.
7. Governing law
Whoever runs this site has not published a governing jurisdiction. Your own consumer protections apply in full, and any dispute would be heard wherever the law says it should be in the absence of an agreed forum.
