Why free?
There are no servers to run, so putting a thousand words online costs almost nothing — charging for them would be rent, not cost. Paying is how the photographs keep coming; it was never how you get to learn.
What the daily limit means
Spaced review hands out up to 40 cards a day for free, every day, forever — about twenty minutes, and more than most people do. Plus removes the ceiling for the person cramming a thousand words before an exam.
